Shade City Roleplay

Our Story

Shade City Roleplay didn't begin in 2026. Our story goes back to 2019, when our community first entered the FiveM world as KaosRP.

A lot has changed since then. We've run a community, stepped away from it, played across other cities, continued developing behind the scenes and learned a huge amount about FiveM along the way.

Shade City is the result of that journey taking what we loved about the original community and combining it with everything we've learned since.

31st May 2019

Where It All Began

Our original FiveM community launched as KaosRP.

KaosRP focused on serious roleplay, a working economy and giving players plenty of ways to create their own stories.

The city featured Police, EMS, mechanics, real estate, gangs, businesses, legal and illegal jobs, custom vehicles, properties, robberies and much more.

Behind the server was a team of more than 15 staff members, administrators and developers working to support the community and regularly bring new content to the city.

It was our first major step into FiveM and ultimately created the foundations for what would one day become Shade City Roleplay.

Late 2020

Closing KaosRP

Unfortunately, toward the end of 2020, KaosRP came to an end.

At the time, I was younger and becoming increasingly busy with college and life outside FiveM. Running and developing a roleplay community properly takes a huge amount of time, and I couldn't give the server the attention it deserved.

Rather than keeping a server running without being able to properly support it, KaosRP was eventually closed.

It wasn't necessarily how we wanted the story to end, but the experience, community and ideas behind it were never forgotten.

2021–2022

The Community Was Still There

Even after KaosRP closed, the community wasn't completely forgotten.

By the beginning of 2022, former players and people who remembered the original server were getting back in touch and asking whether we'd ever consider starting another city.

I continued experimenting with FiveM development and created different server projects over the following years, but I never committed to launching another full community.

If I was going to do it again, I wanted to have the time and motivation to do it properly.

2022–2025

Learning From Other Cities

During the years away from running our own community, I spent a lot of time playing different FiveM servers while continuing to develop things on the side.

Being a player rather than an owner gave me a completely different perspective.

There are some brilliant FiveM communities out there, but I also started noticing the same problems repeatedly similar scripts, similar systems, similar economies and cities that sometimes felt like slightly different versions of each other.

That experience helped shape what another server of ours would eventually become.

If we came back, I didn't want to simply download a collection of resources, change a logo and call it a new city.

I wanted us to build something with its own identity.

2026

Shade City Roleplay Is Born

Years later, people were still asking whether I'd ever bring a server back.

The difference this time was that life had changed too.

College was long behind me, I had considerably more spare time, I'd gained years of additional development experience, and FiveM was still something I genuinely enjoyed working on.

Eventually it became difficult to find a reason not to give it another proper go.

Instead of reopening KaosRP exactly as it was, we decided to take everything we'd learned since 2019 and build something new.

Shade City Roleplay was born.

17 March 2026

Shade City BETA Opens

After months of development, rebuilding and testing, Shade City Roleplay officially opened its BETA on 17 March 2026.

This was the first time players were able to properly enter Shade City and experience what we'd been building.

The BETA wasn't about pretending everything was finished. It was about opening the doors, putting our systems into the hands of real players and building the next stage of the city alongside the community.

Feedback, bug reports, suggestions and actual roleplay experiences began shaping how the server developed.

After years away from running our own community, 17 March 2026 marked the genuine return of the community that originally began with KaosRP in 2019.

2026

The Evolution of KaosRP

Shade City isn't simply KaosRP with another name.

It's the 2026 evolution of the community that started with KaosRP in 2019.

Our approach now is centred around Story > Gunplay.

We want slow-burning stories, meaningful character development and systems that encourage players to explore, investigate and interact with each other.

We've deliberately moved away from the idea that having hundreds of scripts automatically makes a server better.

We'd rather have systems that actually contribute to roleplay.

2026

Building Something Different

One of our biggest goals with Shade City is avoiding the feeling of another copy-and-paste FiveM server.

We're putting our own work into the city through custom development, configuration and integration.

That means discovery-based criminal activities, a custom underworld, hand-tuned vehicles and economy balancing, extensive housing opportunities, player businesses, meaningful Police and EMS gameplay and systems designed around creating longer-term stories.

Not everything needs to be immediately explained.

Some things are there to be discovered through roleplay.

2026

Community First

One thing hasn't changed since the KaosRP days:

A roleplay server is nothing without its community.

Shade City is being developed around player feedback and involvement.

We want our players to have a genuine voice in the direction of the city. Suggestions, feedback, testing and community discussions all help determine what we build and change.

Our developers, staff, helpers, testers and players are all part of that process.

2026

Our Goal

We're not trying to become the biggest FiveM server overnight.

We'd rather build somewhere people genuinely want to stay.

A city where characters develop over months instead of days. Where Police and EMS are meaningful parts of the world. Where criminal organisations can build proper stories. Where businesses can grow. Where civilian roleplay matters just as much as criminal roleplay.

Most importantly, we want Shade City to have an identity of its own.

The Next Chapter

The journey hasn't been a straight line.

31 May 2019 - KaosRP began.
Late 2020 - KaosRP closed while life and college took priority.
2022 - Former community members were still asking for its return.
2022 - 2025 - We continued developing, playing and learning.
2026 - Shade City Roleplay was created.
17 March 2026 - Shade City Roleplay BETA officially opened.

Seven years after the original community began, we're back with more experience, more time and a much clearer idea of the community we want to create.

KaosRP will always be where our story started.

Shade City is where the next chapter begins.
